8 Ways I Feel Appreciated As A Mother

It’s the simple things that matter.

I use to think that I needed a spa day, some form of jewelry, or a dinner at a nice restaurant was what I needed to feel appreciated on Mother’s Day. The push to get a gift is everywhere. It’s all over tv, in the stores advertising, and of course all over social media. Mothers everywhere, each year, showing off what they got for to feel special that day.

Now, please don’t get me wrong here. I like gifts like any other person. I see nothing wrong with getting gifts from loved ones to show you they care. We all like having that one day to feel special, but what if the people you love showed you how special you are all throughout the year?

What if people showed you how special and appreciated you are everyday?

What if you could see what you have, and simply be full of gratitude because of it?

What if you slowed down to pay attention to the special moments in motherhood and in your everyday life?

It’s the simple things that matter.

How do I feel appreciation from my family:

  • When my teenage son comes to me and thanks me for always loving and supporting him, through the good times and the bad. I feel appreciated.
  • When I’m sick, my kids step up the the plate and handle their homework, their chores, their dinner, and they check up on me to make sure I’m ok. I feel appreciated.
  • When they tell me that they love me. I feel appreciated.
  • When we all can sit around together, laugh, make jokes together, and connect as a family. I feel appreciated.
  • When my older kids take over homework duties and help with the younger ones. I feel appreciated.
  • When I come down the stairs, in the morning, see a clean home, and know it’s clean because my kids took care of it. I feel appreciated.
  • When my kids come to me excited to share themselves with me. Whether it be a good grade, something that happened at school, or whatever it is that interest them. I feel appreciated.
  • When my husband tells me he supports my passion, and shows genuine interested in what I do. I feel appreciated.

It’s the simple things that matter.

You see, I don’t hold out for that one day a year, because I see what I have been blessed with 365 days of the year. I see the appreciation my family has for me. They show it in their own way, everyday.

It is nice and rather exciting to get a nice gift, but it’s much more rewarding for me in the long run to be gifted with unconditional love from the ones I hold closet to my heart.

Being a mother is rewarding in so many ways. However, we tend to feel overwhelmed and unappreciated with the day in and day out responsibilities of motherhood.

What are some was your family can show you some appreciation? Do you express how you feel with them? How do you find your happy place and gratitude in the middle of chaos?
