Every summer I plan loads of activities to do with my kids to keep them busy while their are out of school. Whether it’s a craft, a science experiment, or even a field trip to the local museum, I’m always trying to find something for us to do. My boys are older, so they don’t participant as much as they use to. I tend to hang with them in other ways.
This year, I went on Pinterest, and sought out some ideas to help me while I planned our very first home camp. Each week we focused on a different theme. We had a craft week, cooking week, science experiment week, dreams and goal week, nature week, and last but not least, a sewing week.
Sewing week was by far, my girls favorite week. I learned how to sew earlier this year after taking a Sewing 101 class at my local Joann Fabrics Store. When they girls seen my progression with making things like aprons, scarves, and clothing, they asked if they could learn to sew something for themselves.
I figured, why not not teach them the basic and how to sew a few easy things.. I love it when they come to me with their curiosity and interests in my hobbies and passions. Plus, It was a great way for us to hang out, chit chat, and connect.
Below is a awesome list of beginner sewing projects for you to do with your daughter.

I printed out these simple sewing practice sheets from So Sew Easy. It was a great way to get them use to the speed of the machine as well as practice their lines. Once they felt comfortable with the machine, and I felt confident that they wouldn’t break my machine, we went on to the other projects 🙂

My oldest daughter went ahead, and bought herself this cute little Totally me! Sewing machine. It’s perfect for beginners, and little hands. She can have it set up in her room, and she sews her own headbands, and other small items. I totally recommend it!
As you can sew, There are many ways to get your kids into sewing.
