I was out at Big Lots yesterday and came across some pretty pieces of fabric to craft with. I didn’t really need them, however, I just couldn’t pass them up.
Once I had them in my hands I was already thinking of what to do with them. I knew I wanted to make something cute that the girls could wear. I was thinking about headbands but my girls are not keen on keeping them on their heads. So I thought, why not hair bows?! Easy and cute accessories that can be made in 10-15 minutes, tops.
So this is what I did….
I got all of my stuff together.
- fabric
- glue gun
- glue sticks
- hair barrette clips (got a pack of 20 from Micheal’s for $2.99)
- ruler
- scissors (not pictured)
First, I measured the fabric. The size differs and depends on the size you want. For this particular set of bows I chose to measure out 10×7 inch size squares. My line wasn’t all the way straight on this one, however the ones after this came out just fine. I am working on learning to slow down when I’m working on my projects.
Next I flipped the square over and folded it into thirds.

I fold the end into the middle to make a rectangle like so
Now I pinch down the middle and grab my glue gun to glue it together. Hold it until it drys.
With the fabric I have left I cut out a small 3×1 inch piece to use in the middle of my bow.
I folded the small piece of fabric into thirds and glued each fold down.
I then put a little bit of glue on the one side of the small piece and then wrapped it around the middle of the bow. I cut off any excess fabric.
Here is when I grabbed a barrette clip and glue it to the back of the bow.
I love how these turned out!
