Last week, I was going through my totes of halloween decorations, and came across my Halloween centerpiece.
I made this one below, a couple of years ago using items found at my local Dollar Tree.

It was my first centerpiece, and I loved it. Turned out better than I expected. But, As much as I love my old centerpiece, I am quite eager to make something a new for the home. Just for the fun of it.
A few years ago I came across some instructions on how to color rice for a rainbow party I was throwing my daughter. Once I figured out just how easy it is was to dye rice, I couldn’t help but to find a reason to make some of my own.
Coloring rice is my go-to cheap filler for decorating.
You will need:
- 1 Cup of Rice ( I buy 5lbs for $2.25 at Walmart)
- 2 Tablespoons of Rubbing Alcohol (Found at the Dollar Store)
- Food Coloring (Found at the Dollar Store)
- Storage Bags (Gallon size, found at the Dollar Store)
- A Tray for drying
I poured the rice into the storage bag. Added the rubbing alcohol and 5-8 drops of food coloring. The amount of drops depend on how much color you want. I mixed the ingredients until all of the rice is coated, then I layed the rice out to dry on a tray.
I love how bright this orange came out!
Once the rice had dried, (about an hour or so), pour the rice into your vase.

I found some black and purple flowers and eyeballs at the dollar store. I grabbed my hot glue gun, and glued the eyeballs into the middle of the flowers. I then used some old ribbon from my stash, and made a cute bow.
