Today we experimented with melting ice with salt.
The night before I filled up different size bowls with water and placed them in the freezer. Once frozen, I grabbed my cookie sheets (make sure it’s the shallow ones with the sides), measuring spoons, salt (not pictured), and food coloring. If you have eye droppers then grab those as well to use for dropping the food coloring on the ice.
First we dumped the ice out onto the cookie sheets.
I then had the kids shake a little bit of salt at a time onto the ice.
We watched as the salt melted the ice away. The kids were fascinated! Even the teenagers were interested.
Now we started to add the food coloring. The kids loved this and though it was cool.
We watched closely as the food coloring was sipping through the grooves of the ice.
And last, but not least, we turned them over to see what they looked like on the other side.
During our research we found that salt melts the ice because it lower the freezing point in the water.
Another successful science day! We had fun doing this one!

these are so cute! Loved your last few post too, finally canichtg up on blog reading now that my parents have headed home. My mom and I may have spent an awkward amount of time discussing how much we enjoy your blog 🙂
