Resting In God’s Peace

It’s hard to sleep at night when you feel like the circumstances of life are weighing you down. To be up late worrying about what’s going on in the future, worrying about your to-do list, overthinking about how something that may or may not happen or about something that happened in the past. Having mind-racing thoughts that keeps circling over and over and over in your head.
I’ve had many sleepless nights worrying over my kids, my husband, my household, and other people’s behaviors and opinions.
I wasn’t giving my full trust and faith in the control that God had over my life.
There were nights that I gave into the enemy and allowed him to plant seeds of doubt, guilt, insecurity, and shame in my mind and in my heart.
Then, I thought about David, and all that he had been gone through in his own life. He had the odds stacked against him, however his faith carried him through, and he found God’s peace in a form of a pillow to lay his head down on at night.
David slept peacefully at night even though he knew his son was rebelling against him.
He could have been up worrying his nights away, but instead, in Psalm 3:4 it’s states that he cried out to the Lord.
God answered his prayer, which brought him peace.
David had full trust in The Lord of Peace, Jehovah-Shalom.
He knew of God’s character. He one that God would bring him the peace that he needed.
When we lay our heads down at night, we are not to be afraid, worried, or even angry. In the word it says to not let the sun go down while angry.
God granted us his unimaginable peace. He has us lying down in green pastures, being still in his presence.
During our trials we have to have faith, and know that God is in control, and that he is the only one who can hold you over in your storms.
Sleep peacefully at night because you know:
  • That storms don’t last forever
  • That joy comes in the morning
  • That God’s character is good
  • That God answers prayer, and
  • That God loves us.
