A Day At The Farm

This summer, since we’ve moved out of the city, I’ve had to do some digging to find a whole new set of activities to do with the kids. There isn’t as much out in the country to do, however, I’m all about exploring, and finding new adventures for us to embark on.

I came across a website called Pick Your Own where you can research farms in your area that allow to public to come pick their own produce.

A couple of weeks ago I took my girls to Jessop Farms.

It was not our first time going to a farm, but definitely our first time going to a one where you can pick your own produce. Located in a town called Ripon, Jessop Farm is a big farm with lots of activities to kids your little ones busy.

When we first walked up, we seen this cute, blue sand pit play area with a little sail boat.

The girls decided to leave their mark by leaving their names on the chalkboard that is next to the sand pit.

The girls and I enjoyed a few rounds of hopscotch.  20150628094753

When we were done playing around, we stepped over to the bucket table and grabbed buckets for picking.

We came during the end of the season, so the picking were slim. The season start at the beginning of May and ends around the middle of June. Their we no more blueberries left, but they did have some strawberries. My girls didn’t even care though. They were just so excited at the thought picking their own fruit.

Strawberries are $2.00 a pound.

Blueberries are $3.25 a pound.

Compared to most grocery stores in my area, that’s a good deal. You get your own fresh produce, straight from the farm, hand picked yourself.

When we were done picking, we headed over to the stand to get our strawberries weighted and paid. At the stand you can buy a few vegetables that they had on hand. They had ice cream, drinks, almonds, and a few other fruits available. They even had homemade, raw honey for sale. The young lady behind the counter was very helpful and really nice. There is nothing like getting good customer service to make you experience a good one. When we were done at the stand we checked out what else that had on the farm to do.

They had a jump house( not pictured), and a cute putting area for the kid to play. Next, to the putting area were some picnic tables. They were under the shade. Perfect to sit, and have lunch at.

A great place to take your family, I totally recommend checking Jessop Farms out for yourself.

I did not expect my girls to be too interested about picking fruit. In this day in age, with all the the technology at their fingertips, picking fruit seemed like that last thing that would be deemed ‘cool’ to do. Boy was I wrong. They loved it so much that they want to go back next year, earlier in the season, and pick both fruits. My oldest even mentioned wanting to make it a tradition to go back every spring to pick produce.

Have any local farms in your neck of the woods? Have you tried picking your own produce before?
