Being Fit

Fitness is a big part of my life. I do it, not to lose weight, but to just simply be fit and healthy. As a kid I loved to run everywhere. I did cheerleading for a while but preferred doing track. Once I started having kids I couldn’t balance my days out right and I could never get on track like I wanted to. Adding some sit ups after a day of running around after 4 small children was just not possible.

Once the youngest started going to school I had more time during the day. I started walking 10 minutes here 30 minutes there. Walking then turned into jogging once I figured out how to better control my breathing. Then I was gone like the wind. A couple of years went by. I got fast. I ran longer. I even got to the point where I was running 6 miles a day a 3-4 days a week. I continued to run, however, I felt it wasn’t enough. I was itching for more of a challenge in a different way.

I looked into and trying out different gyms and classes. during my search I came across a Bootcamp that wasn’t too far from my house. I signed up and start the first week of January. It’s 3 days a week for an hour. all you need to bring is a bottle of water and a yoga mat.

I’m not going to lie and say that Bootcamp is easy. There were a lot of exercises I had never heard of, let alone done before this bootcamp. Burpees, Bear Crawls, Up Right Rows. There is a whole list of moves to get you going. The trainer of the Bootcamp is a great trainer. He is a cool person with an upbeat personality, but he push you to reach your full potential. He is great at what he does.

When I started I could barely do push ups on my knees. I went from doing less that 10 knee push ups in a minute to doing over 40 regular push ups in that same minute. I can tell that my endurance has grown significantly. I am stronger than before. I have lost some weight, and my BMI count has gone down quite a bit. I’m 6 months in and feel great. Even better now that the clothes I had held onto for the last few years because they were too small are now too big.

I continue to do Bootcamp 3 days a week. I still run 2-3 miles 4 days a week. I also do Zumba at home 2 days a week. I make sure to eat right and getting enough sleep. Doing all of these thing have definitely made a huge difference in how I take care of myself now.

When I said fitness is apart of my life I meant it. I love it! It’s a great way to relive stress. It’s a way of meditating for me. I take the time to talk to God when I’m on my run. When I get tired mid day, instead of a nap, I do a few jump squats and push ups and I’m go to go..

There is nothing like the feeling of being healthy and fit.
What are some exercises that you are doing to stay fit?
