Grilled Sloppy Joes Sandwiches

On Fridays, we either eat out or I make something easy. There is something about the end of the week that gives me less motivation to want to cook. Don’t know what it is. It’s like Friday means to take a load off. Or at least that’s what my head is telling me.

Last week I asked the kids what they wanted for dinner. My oldest had mentioned we hadn’t had Sloppy Joes in awhile. I agreed to making it, however, I wanted to make something new with this family favorite sandwich. I had recently made a different kind of grilled cheese sandwich with the spinach and artichoke. It came out to be the best grilled cheese sandwich I had ever had.

Anything grilled with butter is always good. I thought, why not make a grilled sloppy joe sandwich? I have a homemade sloppy joe recipe that I have used over the years that has never failed us.

To make the Sloppy Joes you will need:

2 pounds ground beef
2 cups ketchup
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon
Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon of mustard
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 Teaspoon salt
Directions:

In a saucepan, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink; drain.

Stir in the ketchup, water, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder and salt.

Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30-40 minutes. Serve on buns.

*This recipe yields 8 servings

To make the Grilled Sandwich you will need:

Ingredients:

1 bun (this time I used a roll with cheese baked in the crust yum)
2 Tablespoon shredded cheese
1 Tablespoon of soft butter
1/4 cup of the sloppy joe mix from above.
2-3 chips

Spread butter on one side of the each of the slices of bread.

Place one side down in the pan and top with cheese, the sloppy joe mixture, a couple of chips, then more cheese before you put the top bun on.

Cook on each side for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.

Would you try this at home? What’s your favorite combination for grilled cheese sandwiches?
