My Mommy, My Best Friend.

I have had a wonderful week with my Mother while she visited. It was her birthday, and every year we get her a plane ticket to come visit as part of her birthday gift. Sometimes we go on a little mini vacay, because my mom is notorious for send hubby and I away so that she can spend time with her kids.

I love spending time with her. She is my bestfriend, next to hubby. She has always been there for me. She has always supported me, and she loves me unconditionally. Our bond is like no other. Some say not typical of a mother/daughter relationship. I remember in my teens years hanging out Friday nights with my mom, watching scary movies, eating popcorn, pizza, chips, and whip cream. If my mom was working then I would hang out with my friends, but if she was off, all my time went to her. We have always had so much fun together. Never a dull moment. I have always been comfortable in telling her anything and everything, learning, as a teenager, that I have to set healthy boundaries and not say too much hahaha.

While she has been here we took her to the clay shooting range. She loved it! Guns are nothing new to my mom. She can put together and break apart a gun with the best of them. She used to be in the Army years ago and was honorably discharged after 4 years. She got married to my Dad, had me, and decided to stay at home.

We planned for my mom to come out two days before baby girl’s birthday and 4 days before her own. She was able to help me, and be apart of baby girl’s party. It made baby girl’s and my mom’s day.

I took Mom to Church, we watched a few shows and movies, we did a little shopping, and we went out for lunch a few times. All our favorite pastimes.

On her birthday she decided to take a little trip down memory lane. Her request was to drive back to the area where I grew up. Monterey and Fort Ord Army Base in Central California. We got to drive around on the base and talk about our what our lives were like back when we lived there. It was just My Dad, my Mom, and I. We made some great memories there. We laughed, we cried, and we took pictures. We were bummed that the house we stayed in was no longer there, but we were grateful to have the opportunity to look at what we use to call our home.

One evening, hubby and my mom went to the movies to see the movie Gravity. I personally wasn’t interested in seeing it, however, hubby and my Mom were. Hubby decided to take my mom out to see the movie and have some ‘Mother and Son’ time together. Sometime I’m amazed at just how well they get along. My Mom calls him her son, and he calls her Mama. They both love The Discovery Channel and they both are Star Trek fans. Both middle children and can relate. I’m blessed to have my parents and my husband get along. I’m also blessed that I can get along with my hubby’s family as well.

Overall, My Mom said that she had an awesome trip as always. Time with her daughter, her loving son , and her grand babies. I hate that she has to go back home, but I hope that one day, we can moved into a bigger house so that I can accommodate space for my mom to move in. My dream would be to have enough space in my backyard to build a small cottage for her. If not then renovating the garage would be the nest best thing. Either way, she will be close and will be living our her days with me taking care of her.
